Narratology is the study of narrative and how pieces of the story connect to form a constructive whole. They look at narrative structures and genres used. They also study the message sender and the recipient of the message - the reader and the writer in the written medium. Unlike print, it's sometimes hard to distinguish who is sending the message - the director, the producer, the writer? A combination of all three?
